With 136 golfers, good weather, and tons of food, refreshments and prizes the 5th Annual Golf Tourney was another huge success. As one of the Departments main fund raisers, the day nicely fit together. A thanks goes out to all the members that woke early to provide the breakfast to the players, to the members that stayed late to hand out prizes, the entire day was filled with help. Thanks to all that helped out, both players, members & local business owners.

DOOR OF OPPORTUNITY OPENS
Monday, June 8, 2009
-
Congrats to Captain Bill Stull and the members of Eagle McClure that rode the Engine out to a multi family dwelling fire on Oak St in Old Forge Sunday evening. Engine 93-3 was responsible for the primary water supply, while Engine 93 stretched and Engine 98 had the secondary water supply. A wise retired PA State Fire Academy instructor always said, "Do your job unless, the job is impossible, not needed, or taken over by someone else". We think these photos give support to this statement. The doors of opportunity did in fact open !!!

***UPDATED: COOPERATION YEILDS YET ANOTHER ADVANCEMENT

Tuesday, May 26, 2009
-
****UPDATED: The cataloging of all Fire Hydrants in both Moosic and Old Forge is now complete. Nearly 1000 hydrant locations were added into Garmin GPS units. All information was exchanged between agencies so the burden of seaking out a water supply location is now electronically provided.

Additional detailed work with these units is sure to take place in the future.

Greenwood Fire in conjunction with Eagle McClure & Lawrence Hose in Old Forge are nearly complete with the GPS cataloging of over 1000 Fire Hydrants in both Old Forge & Moosic. Entering the GPS locations of all hydrant locations into Garmin units has proven to be a intensive task. With Old Forge being 99% complete and Moosic nearly 50% complete, the information will be downloaded and shared between Garmin units in each apparatus.

By entering this information, it allows the Company Officer the ability to view in real time the physical location of hydrants as they relate to the response location address.

CRASH, FIRE, MASSIVE FUEL SPILL AND A LONG LONG LINE OF BACKED UP TRAFFIC
Thursday, May 21, 2009
-
Run # 2 of the day was a mess. A north bound Tractor Trailer hit the Jersey Barrier in a reduced lane construction area in Moosic this morning, ripping open 2  full saddle tanks, catching fire and coming to rest 200 yards after the impact. The fire was well advanced upon our arrival with a substantial fuel fire also present. Once the fire was extinguished crews began laying down 3000 lbs of oil dry on the diesel spill that occurred over several hundred yards of the roadway.

Engine 98, 93, Rescue 95 & Brush 93 with the Lower Valley Oil Dry resource trailer cleared the incident to Lackawanna EMA & PENNDOT for possible road reconstruction work.

LACKAWANNA RIVER RESCUE

Monday, May 11, 2009
-
Rescue 98 & the Chief were sent scrambling to the area of 600 Main St in Moosic Sunday afternoon for a report of a female in the river. Upon dispatch, Swift Water Rescue 93 & Duryea Dive were requested as support. As companies were arriving, a firm location of the female was obtained. Old Forge PD K9 Officer Jason Dubernas was able to locate the female approximately 200 yards up river from the Lonesome Road area. The Officer without regard for himself entered the rapidly moving water and rescued the female who was hung up on a rock in the middle of the river. The Officer pulled the female to a remote wooded area of the river bank on the Old Forge side. The Rescue 98 crew along with the Swift Water Team traversed through the wooded area, packaged the patient into a stokes basket and extracted her to waiting EMS. The incident ended favorably.

The yellow star in the photo shows the approximate location of where the female entered the Springbrook Creek, She was pulled downstream into the Lackawanna River. The red arrow shows the location of the rescue.

Wednesday, April 29, 2009

While all Scranton Companies plus many others from Lackawanna County battled a multi alarm fire in the Hill Section, Engine 98 was detailed to Scranton Engine 4 to provide a fill in. Just as Engine 98 arrived in Scranton a Moosic Structure Fire was dispatched for a confirmed fire in the 4200 block of Birney Avenue. Moosic PD Officer ??? arrived on the scene and reported a fully involved structure fire. With this information all SRN Companies were dispatched per protocol. Lets just say it was like Moses in the Desert. A "burning bush" was resolved by Brush 98 while Old Forge Fire Chief Aulisio cleared the balance of the responding companies.

Engine 98 would then return to the fill in for a short period. Just after being cleared from the fill in, Engine 98 was detailed to cover a motor vehicle crash on Meridian Ave in Scranton. The Engine Company provided medical attention to the patients until the EMS arrived and also resolved the fluid hazard.

Shortly after the Scranton crash was cleared, crews were sent to I-81 at MP 180 to work a crash involving a Tractor Trailer and motor vehicle.

OFF ROAD RESCUE WORK

Monday, April 20, 2009
-
Greenwood & Avoca members spent a good portion of a Sunday afternoon chasing people in the woods. Crews mounted several ATV's & UTV's and utilized the departments GPS location device to sharpen operational skills and techniques. The location equipment takes longitude and latitude coordinates from a 911 caller and develops a road map which should eventually lead to the troubled caller. Crews ran 4 of 5 successful evolutions.
