2nd TOUR OF DUTY COMPLETED: ASSIST TO DURYEA FIRE, FLOODING
Friday, September 9, 2011
-
UPDATED September 11, 2011: 98 Fire made the short trip into Duryea Borough to lend a few hands. The crews opened up early Sunday morning up with a visit to each home on South Main Street checking water levels. Several homes were again pumped out to ease the pain on these home owners. Thank you Duryea Fire for allowing us to lend a hand and to the other departments still in play after nearly 60 hours, take a break guys, you deserve it.

Our guys couldn't do much but wait and wait some more until the Gas Pumps reduced the level of water in each basement. Once the level lowered all we could do was move the equipment to the next location. We did however have a chance to talk to many of these people affected and all we can say is "O" my God!     These folks and their belongings are devastated. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. If there is  anyway that you may be able to help them, even if it's only words of encouragement, please do so. Their world is upside down right now. As our group was packing up after spending only a few short hours trying to lend a hand, a homeowner came running toward us in tears and filled with panic. All she could say in a cracked voice was " Are you coming back"?  Yes, we and others will return to lend a hand or simply just to listen. GOD BLESS these people and the people that are trying to provide a helping hand. STAY SAFE EVERYONE
